SheetDog is ready to go. Here's a quick walkthrough to get the most out of your new shortcuts and AI-powered editing.
Get the Most Out of SheetDog
Six quick steps to become a power user.
Find Your SheetDog Icon
Open or refresh any Google Sheet. You should see a dog icon appear in the top-right corner of your sheet, next to the other collaborator avatars. This means SheetDog is active and ready.
Click the dog icon — or press Ctrl+Shift+S — to open the SheetDog sidebar. From here you can view shortcuts, change settings, and use AI editing.
Sign In
In the sidebar, click Sign in with Google to connect your account. This unlocks your free shortcuts immediately, and starts a 21-day free trial of all Pro features — no credit card required.
We'll also automatically enable Google Sheets' compatible keyboard shortcuts setting for you — this ensures Sheets doesn't interfere with your shortcuts or cause Alt to jump to browser controls. If you'd like to check this setting yourself, you can find it under Help → Keyboard shortcuts.
When you use complex features for the first time, Google will ask you to pick your spreadsheet — that's how SheetDog gets permission to work in your sheet. Just click Select and you're in.

Try Some Shortcuts
SheetDog uses the same shortcut patterns you know from Excel. Here are some good ones to start with:
Auto-Fit Column Width
Alt→H→O→IBottom Border
Alt→H→B→OHow sequences work: For Alt shortcuts, tap and release each key one at a time (don't hold). For Ctrl shortcuts, hold all keys together. Exactly like Excel.
Try AI Editing Pro
Open the sidebar and ask. "Build a 5-year ARR forecast." "Format this P&L." "Split this model into two segments." SheetDog reads your sheet, writes the formulas, and applies the changes — across multiple tabs, in your formatting style.
Ask a question and get an answer, or request an edit and review it before anything changes. Your data goes from your browser straight to the AI provider. It never touches our servers.

Trace and Understand Formulas Pro
Hit Ctrl+Shift+[ on any cell to open the precedents panel. SheetDog walks the formula's dependency chain — including references on other sheets — and lets you arrow-key through each input or jump straight to the source cell.
Explain with AI: In the trace precedents panel, press 'AI Explanation' — SheetDog will trace every input and explain calculations clearly using your actual model structure.
Customize Your Shortcuts
Every shortcut in SheetDog is fully customizable. Open the sidebar, find any shortcut, and click the key boxes to reassign them. Don't like the default for bottom border? Change it to whatever feels right.
Format cycles too: You can customize the colors and number formats in each cycle to match your team's style guide.
