You're Up and Running!

SheetDog is ready to go. Here's a quick walkthrough to get the most out of your new shortcuts and AI-powered editing.

Get the Most Out of SheetDog

Five quick steps to become a power user.

1

Find Your SheetDog Icon

Open or refresh any Google Sheet. You should see a dog icon appear in the top-right corner of your sheet, next to the other collaborator avatars. This means SheetDog is active and ready.

Click the dog icon — or press Ctrl+Shift+S — to open the SheetDog sidebar. From here you can view shortcuts, change settings, and use AI editing.

2

In the sidebar, click Sign in with Google to connect your account. This unlocks your free shortcuts immediately, and starts a 21-day free trial of all Pro features — no credit card required.

We'll also automatically enable Google Sheets' compatible keyboard shortcuts setting for you — this ensures Sheets doesn't interfere with your shortcuts or cause Alt to jump to browser controls. If you'd like to check this setting yourself, you can find it under Help → Keyboard shortcuts.

Pro trial includes: AI editing, format cycles, auto-fit columns/rows, and more.

3

Try Some Shortcuts

SheetDog uses the same shortcut patterns you know from Excel. Here are some good ones to start with:

Auto-Fit Column Width

AltHOI

Bottom Border

AltHBO
Cycle Font Colors
Pro
Ctrl+Shift+2
Cycle Dollar Formats
Pro
Ctrl+Shift+4

How sequences work: For Alt shortcuts, tap and release each key one at a time (don't hold). For Ctrl shortcuts, hold all keys together. Exactly like Excel.

Set Up AI Editing
Pro

SheetDog's AI can build models, write formulas, format tables, and answer questions about your data — right inside your sheet. To get started, you'll need an API key from one of our supported providers:

  1. Open the sidebar and go to Settings
  2. Choose your AI provider — we support Claude (Anthropic) and Grok (xAI)
  3. Click the link to the provider's platform, create an API key, and paste it in
  4. Your key is stored locally on your device — we never see it

Once set up, type a prompt like "Build a 5-year revenue forecast" or ask a question like "What's the total in column D?". The AI understands your sheet's structure, respects your formatting preferences, and can work across multiple tabs.

Two modes: Ask questions and get answers directly, or request edits and review the proposed changes before applying them.

5

Customize Your Shortcuts

Every shortcut in SheetDog is fully customizable. Open the sidebar, find any shortcut, and click the key boxes to reassign them. Don't like the default for bottom border? Change it to whatever feels right.

Format cycles too: You can customize the colors and number formats in each cycle to match your team's style guide.
